Returning in 2012
After a successful debut at Greenbuild Expo in 2011, Ignition will be back in 2012 with an expanded format.
Producing heat to warm homes, offices and factories uses about 40% of the energy we consume in the UK, yet to date, and unlike electricity production, there has been no sustained attempt to reduce this or shift to renewable sources. With the long awaited introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive in 2012, and the rising cost of oil and concerns over supply, this is about to all change and Ignition12 will focus on a heat source that has great potential in the UK – woodfuel.
Woodfuel (a form of biomass) is produced from sustainably harvested woodlands, dedicated energy crops and waste timber (pre and post consumer). It is a very versatile material that comes in chip’ pellet or log form and can be used in a range of applications, from domestic central heating to process heat. The UK has fallen behind many European countries such as Denmark and Austria in its use of woodfuel but the cost benefits and low carbon credentials have seen it being adopted by an increasing number of customers, a trend which is likely to be significantly enhanced by the RHI.
Ignition 11
Ignition 11 saw the woodfuel industry have its own space within a sustainable building and refurbishment event, Greenbuild Expo. This helped raise awareness and was a fantastic showcase for the industry seeing around 25 leading boiler suppliers, woodfuel suppliers and specialist organisations rub shoulders with other renewable technologies for the first time.
Ignition 12
With the recent reduction in PV tariff leveling the playing field, 2012 provides the best opportunity yet for companies involved in the woodfuel industry to show building owners other solutions. For visitors, it provides the chance to find out what grants may be available to you, to learn how the industry can help you achieve a more sustainable business and view the best technologies for your situation. It will provide the latest developments with the Renewable Heat Incentive, how that effects commercial applications now and how it will stimulate growth in the domestic market in October this year.
Exhibitors already booked include Asgard Biomass Systems, RES, Forestry Commission, Viessmann, Woodpecker Energy, Econergy, UK Biomass, Hoval, Billington Biofuels , Dalkia, Clear Power, Westwood Fuels and CPL with more in the pipeline. It’s the ideal opportunity to promote yourselves and your benefits to a growing number of organisations who are now looking at how to make their buildings and businesses more sustainable, reduce fuel bills, cut carbon emissions and who wish to find out the latest technological developments as they begin their sustainable journey.
There is an expanded full 2 day programme of seminars just click on the conference tab at the top of this page and follow the quick links to the Ignition 12 programme. It focuses on woodfuel, including how the RHI will support woodfuel, understanding and using fuel quality standards, advancement in boiler technology, woodfuel procurement and a guide to ‘getting it right first time’ when it comes to specifying equipment and fuel. Advice from consulting engineers, surveyors and agents will be supplemented by a number of organisations such as Forestry Commission and Rural Development Initiatives who will be able to point you in the right direction, whether it’s a fuel supplier or a boiler installer.
Ignition12 couldn’t be coming at a better time and there is no better platform to promote the woodfuel industry to a new audience of professionals that may not know the advantages of Biomass and to converts and supporters who already appreciate how biomass can fit into their energy saving programme.
